Are you wondering what to do with your teens this summer?  Look no further.  FLVS offers diverse electives to entertain and enrich your child’s life. All of these are free to Florida students.

Students who love the outdoors might want to consider the Hunter Education and Boater Safety Course.  If your child is interested in fishing or boating and is 12 to 18 years old, then the Outdoor Education course will enable the student to receive his/her Boating Safety Identification Card at the completion of the course.  The student will also receive a hunting safety course completion certificate from FLVS, but will have to participate in hands-on training in order to demonstrate proficiency in handling a firearm prior to receiving the Hunter Safety Certification Card and hunting license.  The link to the ways to demonstrate live-firing of a firearm can be found on the second page of the FLVS Completion Form at: http://myfwc.com/media/2711482/Virtual-School-Registration.pdf
As a bonus, this course can be counted as a .5 credit in PE and meets the online course requirement for public high school students.  For more information check out the video at:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnKD_eoLvkI

Fourteen year olds itchin’ to drive can take the FLVS Driver’s Education and Traffic Safety Course online. The course includes the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Training Course Waiver which is required to get your Florida Learner’s Permit.  The course also prepares the student to take the Road Signs and Safety Test either online or at your local DMV. It includes road simulations to put students in real world driving situations.  So, check out the video at:

Artistic students might want to check out the Creative Photography 1 course.  Students learn and apply fundamental skills to use a camera. In addition, the course teaches students to understand the evolution of the camera and photography from a means of documentation to a recognized high art form, to use creative approaches to develop a photographic portfolio, to examine photographic specialty areas and product photography, and to understand and apply the role of the critic when analyzing photographs. As students work through each module, they use Web 2.0 tools to gain knowledge of the principles and elements of design, build photographic skills, and create their own portfolios of photographs with a diverse subject base.

Musically gifted students might like to take the Guitar 1 course. No prior music experience is needed. Students learn the fundamentals of music and the basic skills necessary to play a wide variety of music styles.  Each student needs a playable six-string guitar and a device that is capable of recording a video, including audio, to submit work to the teacher via computer as an attached file.

Florida Virtual School is your public online fully accredited school.  These courses are free to Florida private school and home education students. Check them out at: www.flvs.net.
