Do I need to submit a final evaluation when I submit my letter of termination, even if I've already submitted my annual evaluation?

If you have not yet submitted your annual evaluation for the 2023-2024 school year, then yes, you should do that before terminating in order to complete your requirements as a home education family for the school year. Many counties are actually asking for these evaluations upon termination, but even if they don't ask for it, it's advised to submit one so that you're covered on all bases for having completed the requirements for the school year.

This is a valid concern, for sure. We've had several parents reach out and tell us their district was requesting an additional evaluation... but most of those resolved as soon as the parent pushed back and clarified they'd already submitted their annual eval and weren't required to do another. I haven't heard the 3-month time limit before, though. I think there's some lack of training/lack of awareness about PEP in many of the school districts, and that's the root of the confusion. We encourage parents to inform themselves of the statutes (which is why we're here to help!) and to advocate for themselves. Often the particular person you're speaking with at the district may just not be aware. But you're right---this would be a good thing to touch on in the next Livestream to clarify this (particularly about the 3-month thing) and to make sure parents know they aren't required to send in more than what's required... especially if evaluators are recommending otherwise.
