Parent-Directed Education
Craig & Brenda Dickinson worked with Senator Daniel Webster (Orlando) to write and sponsor a bill to recognize Home Education in Florida back in the 1980's. They helped define what home education is in statutes in Florida, and protect each parent's right to educate their child(ren) as they see fit.

HEF Connect is a 501c3 Non Profit Organization that emerged out of the original work of the Home Education Foundation. Hence the name: HEF CONNECT (HEFx).

HEF Connect supports an online community by gathering families that are passionate about parents directing the education for their children. We keep an active online forum and social media community that facilitates parents who are veterans in exercising their freedoms to connect with others. We support parents as they get involved in their communities and with their local leaders.

We maintain a live forum, blog, livestream podcast, videos, and more to help parents connect with information that is accurate so that they may have answers when issues arise. Whether it’s answers to questions about scholarships, opportunities for home education families in a post-secondary world, or information about laws changing, and what they need to know to keep up-to-date, we provide accurate, well-researched answers for our community to guide them into confidence in their parent-directed freedoms to educate their children.
Institutions, organizations and individuals are often infringing and encroaching upon parents’ educational rights, especially when parents are new to home education. So, whether it’s a new employee to a district restricting choices, an organization not wanting to extend opportunities protected by law, or just ignorance as the main cause, we come alongside parents with a step beyond information - we advocate for them. We’ve been here for 40+ years - we know quite a bit. We've stood by parents and we'll continue to do so.
We’ve been in the home education space for over four decades, and we have networked well. We get informed about opportunities, new programs, or even opportunities that are just under-utilized. We are building a platform to identify unique opportunities that embody our vision, “The world is our classroom.” We go beyond the 4 walls of a college or university and help parents leverage our network to connect their children with opportunities for success in life beyond school - HEF CONNECT.
