2018 Legislative Update

New School District Requirements as a Result of House Bill 731

The 2018 Legislature passed, and Governor Scott signed into law, House Bill 731, which takes effect July 1, 2018. The purpose of this memorandum is to inform school districts of new responsibilities and considerations in this law. A point of contact for each section is identified below. Home Education (Section 1)

  1. A home education program is not a school district program and is registered with the district school superintendent only for the purpose of complying with the state’s attendance requirements under s. 1003.21(1).
